Anything but a card....

Hello there!

Happy Saturday! I hope you are keeping well.

It's been a bit quiet around here recently...that's because Lorna and I have just spent an amazing week in sunny Cuba! We swam in the sea, drank loads of rum and generally enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. We went on various tours and saw all sides of Cuba - it's a really interesting country to visit.

Anyway, enough babbling from me! I'm really here to tell you about the new challenge over at Sweet Stampin....this week we want you to get creative with an "anything but a card" challenge. 

You can make anything you like, as long as you use a stamp somewhere. I opted for a bookmark for my project......

I have kept it clean and simple, using plain white card to stamp my sweet jar on. My image has been coloured in bright Promarkers and I have added a little sparkle with my Stickles. I had a little faux stitching to give the bookmark a border and finally finished it off with some blue ribbon.

Calling all bookworms!

Hello there! Happy Saturday!

I hope you are well and have had a fab week!

I'm here with a new challenge from My Time to Craft...and this one is perfect for all you bookworms out there. We'd like to see you create a bookmark!

I love books....real books made out of paper...not these electronic things that are so popular at the moment. Yes, I know that makes me sound very old fashioned, but I just don't think you can beat a book!

Anyway, thats enough from me....here is my bookmark....

 

I love this cute stamp from Simon Says Stamp, it always makes me smile!

 

I've coloured my image with my Promarkers, and made the base of my bookmark from brown and blue card (fab colour combo!). Finally I added some ribbon.

For him....

Hello there, hope you're having a fab weekend!

Do you ever wonder why the weekends fly by so much quicker than the week days?? I do!! I'm sure that as soon as 6pm Friday comes around we switch to a different...faster time...and as soon as we wake up on Monday morning the time switches back again!!

I've had a lovely weekend....yesterday was spent in Guildford at a vintage fair with my sister. I bought two new dresses from a bargain rail...I was very pleased with myself! I also went to a fireworks display last night, I haven't been to an organised event in years and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Today has been spent in the kitchen.....my perfect Sunday! I've made a new batch of soups to freeze for my work day lunches and I've made a  batch of peanut butter cupcakes.....

 

I can confirm that they are indeed very yummy!

 

I've also made time for a little crafting today.....and after all the girlie creating in the kitchen I decided to go with something a little more masculine for my craft......

 

 

I created my bookmark using plain brown and blue card, a cute little image that has been coloured with my Promarkers and some shiny gold stars. I've finished the bookmark off with some faux stitching and some bronze ribbon.

Bookworm

Morning Everyone - hope you're well this morning.

I have a quick project to share with you this morning for this week's challenge over at Cupcake Craft Challenge where the theme is.......bookworm. You can create anything with a book on it, or a bookmark.

I went for a bookmark!

If I'm honest I'm not entirely happy with this project, its not as pretty as I wanted it to be.

I used pink card as the base and topped that with black and white polka dot paper. I used my Martha Stewart edge cutter to punch a pretty border onto the bottom of the polka dot paper, and used a plain hole punch at the top for my ribbon hole. I added a little pink ribbon before finally sticking the polka dot paper onto the pink card.

I then stamped a pretty flower image onto a piece of white card, adding the sentiment "A Perfect Day". I think the perfect day is often topped off with a little reading! I coloured the card using my spun sugar distress ink from Tim Holtz - I love this colour! Next I backed my stamped image with some more pink card, and attached that to the polks dot paper.

This is probably the widest and thickest bookmark you'll ever come across! At least you won't loose your page!

Finally I added the embellishments - a sticky gem to the bottom of the ribbon to cover the hole and I used me stickles to add a little sparkle to my flowers.

Something a little bit different

Morning!

The challenge over at Stamp Fairy this week is one to get our creative juices running...the challenge is "anything but a card" and the DT have created some fab projects for inspiration.

After thinking for what felt like ages I decided to keep it simple and create a little bookmark.

I love this brown and pink spotty card, the pink spots have got glitter on to make it really girly. I've then added some pink card on top, which I have edged with little white "stitches" and three pink gems for a little sparkle. I've coloured and attached Kasi at the bottom.

Finally I put a hole in the top and threaded some pink ribbon, tied in a bow. I think this makes a really girly bookmark, which makes me smile whenever I look at it!

I've also decided to enter this in the "anything but square" challenge over at Cupcake Craft Challenges this week.

Spots before my eyes!

Evening All.....a late one tonight...I'm surprised that I'm still awake as I am soooo sleepy today. The steroids are really messing with my sleep now....only another four days to go, then back to the doctors!

So, tonight I've been working on an exciting little project. Do you remember the other day I showed you my card with the removable cupcake recipe?? Well that got me thinking...at Christmas time I made all my friends a bookmark...Anika in particular has got great use of of her one (she told me today!) and that made me think that they make quite cool little pressies. Sooooo.......I decided to create a card like the cupcake recipe one, but with a removable bookmark!

The card:
I've used the large oblong card again as that gives me the most room. I've used fab spotty backing paper from the Forever Friends range and made a little pocket out of pink paper. I printed my message on the paper before creating the pocket. I then wrapped the pocket with some lovely white spotty ribbon that I got for free (I know - lucky me!) when I bought some glitter glue recently. I've embellished the card with a couple of punched out flowers and used mini glitter spots in the middle of each.


The bookmark:

I've created the bookmark from layered paper and card in pinks and purples (no surprise there reallyt!) that I have then embellished with the same punched flowers as the main card. Again I printed my sentiment before making the bookmark. I have then laminated the bookmark to make it a little stronger. I've punched a hole in the top of the bookmark and threaded some pink ribbon through for a little girlie finishing touch.

I think this would make a lovely card to give to someone who you wanted to give a little gift to....maybe a thank you or a thinking of you gift??   

This project also fits in nicely with the challenge over at Cute Card Thursday as they have asked for projects that include spots and dots! The DT have come up with loads of fab variations on the theme...take a peek here. 

I also wanted to give my friend a quick mention as I am rather jealous of her current challenge......Fiona is training for this year's London Marathon! I used to be a keen runner myself (pre-knee problems!), but the furthest I ever ran was the Great South Run, which was 10 miles. I am very impressed as this an amazing challenge and I know Fiona and her husband are both training very hard. They are raising money for The Shaw Trust which is a national charity providing training and work opportunities for people who are disadvantaged in the workplace due to disability, ill health or other social circumstances. Crafts Beautiful

I wanted to share with you all one of the other things I get up to when not blogging or crafting......I'm a member of the Crafts Beauitful website....and I'd highly recommend it to all crafters out there! Its the website version of the magazine Crafts Beautiful and you'll craft projects, downloads and competitions by the bucket load..... http://www.crafts-beautiful.com/

My favourite section however is the forum, which allows you to chat and interact with fellow crafters from around the world. We have a general chat section and individual sections for all the different crafts where you can show off your makes, ask questions and be inspired. There is also a challenge section, where you can enter various competitions. Plus there is the crafty swap section, which I love! Each month you can sign up to the different swaps (cards, jewellery, bookmarks, fridge magnets etc), make the item and send it off...in return you'll get some elses make! Its a brilliant way to challenge yourself and see how other people make things.

This month I've entered the card swap, the jewellery swap and the bookmark swap and here are my makes:

This is my bookmark, the theme for this swap is love. I have taken a piece of red card and stamped the outline hearts on both sides of the card. Once dry I dotted around the outside edge with glitter glue. I then added black and white dotty ribbon in a bow to the front - cute and simple, just the way love should be (ha, ha!).

My second swap is the jewellery swap, and if I'm honest I am sad to see this bracelet go! The theme for this swap was pearls and sparkles and you could make either a necklace or a bracelet. I've used painted pearls in soft pinks and silver greys, along with some fantastic glitter beads in silver that I found on Ebay. The beads are all on headpins, and I've used a piece of memory wire for the base. I've kept the bracelet fairly loose, to allow the beads some movement. I don't think the photo does this one justice - its so gorgeous!

Finally we have the card swap - this month its a Birthday card and the theme is Flower Fairies. On closer inspection of my craft stash I realised I have no flower fairies lurking around - so I created this little lady myself. I sketched her in pencil and then scanned her into my computer. I'm quite pleased, even if mum says she is more a granny fairy!

This card also fits in with the Secret Crafters Saturday Challenge this week, as I have used the layout that they have given us by Jane, go and take a look at the DT designs - they are all super gorgeous this week:  http://thesecretcraftersaturdaychallenge.blogspot.com/2010/01/challenge-65.html

So I have used the sketch exactly, allow they did allow you to rotate it. I have used a combination of pink card, a little patterened paper and two ovals that I created on the computer, along with three little blue flowers made using my trusty punch.
