A bit of shabby chic

Hello campers, hope you had a fab weekend!

I'm amazed that its already Monday evening again...where does time go?? We took the Brownies to London on Saturday, we hunted for eggs in St James Park which was fun. Then on Sunday I watched Joe and his friends play with remote control cars all day....yes, as well as big noisy cars they all now have small remote control cars too!! At least we had a lovely BBQ and I got to relax in the sunshine!

This evening I've been having fun with a little bit of shabby chic crafting and a card with a little suprise.....soooo here's the card.....

Secret Crafter Saturday Challange have a shabby chic/vintage challenge for us this week, and so I've opted for soft muted colours...along with one of my favourite embellishments....a doillie!

"Whats the surprise?" I hear here you cry....well here you are....

Ohhhh....I've created a little secret pocket on my card that contains a cupcake recipe! Perfect for sending to a friend....to hint that you want some cake! This fits in with the "use a cooking recipe" theme over at Allsorts this week.

I'm pleased to report that I am really happy with how this card has turned out! I'd also like to enter it in the "sound of music" challenge over at Cupcake Craft Challenge this week! My music inspiration was "If I knew you were comin' I'd've baked a cake" by Eileen Barton.....remember that little ditty?? I bet that one line is stuck in your head now....I think I'll be going to bed singing it! Anyway, send this card to your friend and they'll have no excuse not to have a cake waiting for you when you pop by!

Pop by all the challenge blogs mentioned above to see all the gorgeous DT cards that have been created this week.

Thanks for popping by today,

No cards allowed!

Evening all - isn't it lovely and hot today...not that you'd know it my ice box office at work!

First off I just wanted to say thank you for everyone's get well soon wishes. Its so lovely to log on and read them all. I'm pleased to say that I am feeling much better now...summer bugs are not nice!

Right, on to a brilliant challenge from my favourite card challenge blog the Creative Cottage. This week it's the turn of the lovely Tracy to set the challenge and she has set a fab one......as my post title suggests...she wants projects that do not include cards! Now for a card maker that's a bit of a toughie! If you're stuck for ideas on this one, pop over to their blog and take a peek at the brilliant DT designs!

Here is what I went with.....

.......a yummy cake recipe card (it's not a greetings card honest - there is no inside!)...the perfect gift for a cake baking loving friend! I have to admit I was a little stumped to begin with, so I took a look around the Creative Cottage blog for some inspiration and came across the July freebie. The lovely paper and cupcake image gave me the inspiration for this recipe card.

I've used layers of pink card, the paper and image from the freebie set, a yummy cake recipe that I've used a million times and some sparkly dots for a little kitchen glamour! Perfect for a Birthday pressie.....or even a just because pressie!

There is also a DT call at Creative Cottage which I've entered....I love their blog and it would be brilliant if I could be part of their team...wish me luck!

Right, I was a little naughty at lunchtime today...my feet somehow took me into a local craft department and somehow I accidently bought some new clear stamps! Whoops! So, I'm off now to put them to good use!

Thanks for stopping by today,

Card with a Little Difference

Morning everyone....well I'm pleased to tell you my new little project has dried, and I've put the finishing touches together. I am really pleased with how this little project has turned out....I first thought of the idea last year, but couldn't work out how I wanted it to look. Then suddenly when I was laying in bed the other night looking at the ceiling it came to me!!

I wanted to create a card that included a recipe for a cupcake that the person could keep, but wasn't sure how to make it practically so that the card and the recipe could both be used and still look pretty. Recently I bought these new card blanks - huge oblongs - not that practical for a lot of my cards, but as it turned out perfect for my recipe cards!

I created the removable recipe card on my computer, using a lovely simple recipe that anyone can follow. I've put the main recipe on the front of a piece of pink card and the frosting recipe on the back. The pink card is embellished with a handmade paper cupcake and loads of glitter glue. Once dried I laminated this to protect it and then cut out the shape I wanted.

I then used a piece of flowery backing paper on the main card, and created a pocket for the recipe card out of plain pink paper, which I wrapped with some gorgeous ribbon. I then added the words to the front of the pocket.

Looking at my finished item I decided that the card looked a little boring when the recipe card was removed and so I decided to add one more little paper cupcake underneath the recipe card which is revealed once the recipe is removed.

I am so pleased with how this has tuned out - a very cute card for someone who you want to send a little extra something to.

I think I will try and make a whole range of these cards, covering different recipes maybe. The next one is obviously chocolate cake!!

Anyway, this is pure showing off this morning, so I hope I haven't bored you! I'm off to the boyfriend's this weekend, so probably no internet for me - how will I cope??

Hope you have a fab weekend and I'll see you next week!
