A difficult challenge for me....

Hello there,

Me again! This time I am back with a new challenge from My Time to Craft.

Now, every so often us crafters come across cards that we just don't like making. For me its Sympathy cards....now don't get me wrong, having lost my own dad at a younger than expected age, I know exactly the sentiment behind the cards and was touched by the amount of sympathy cards that me and my family received during that sad period. And maybe that's exactly why I struggle when I am asked to create one...I'm not sure. All I know is that I prefer to steer away from the usual imagery found on Sympathy cards and try and express the sentiment using different images.

So when I found out that the challenge this week at My Time to Craft was "Sympathy" cards I got my thinking cap on and searched my stamp collection for a suitable image....

I have used this lovely stamp on several different cards now, each featuring a different sentiment and I love how versatile it is. I have stamped my typewriter onto a blank kraft card, stamped my sentiment and then added a little detailing with a white pen. I am really pleased with how the card turned out.

Visiting an Old Friend.....

Hello there...Happy Monday! I hope you've had a lovely day!

Soooo....I enter a lot of challenges and visit a lot of challenge blogs...we all know that....and I seem to go through phases of which ones I visit regularly. One challenge blog that I used to visit every Wednesday without fail, but one that I haven't visited in ages is Sweet Sketch Wednesday. The ladies over there are all so talented and friendly....I couldn't resist popping by this evening to see what they've been creating.

Here is their fab sketch for this week....

Plus they have a lovely theme of celebrating women....I decided to make a card that celebrates female friendship....I love to make cakes and cards for my friends "just beacause" and so when I saw this cute freebie image everything fell into place!

Isn't she sweet?? Just put some glasses on her and it could be me!! The image is from Sliekje Digi Stamps where Angelique creates super cute images. The girl in the image does have legs...but I wanted to make her a bit smaller and so I cut them off - I hope Angelique doesn't mind!!

I've gone with pinks and soft pastel colours for this card to make it really girly, but added a bit of blue to make my image stand out. I coloured the image with my Promarkers and added a little sparkle to the cupcake with my Stickles. I've also added my sentiment in a banner.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Love to Create - thinking of you
The Pink Elephant - banners
Top Tip Tuesday - good with food

My Tip this fortnight - the ribbon on my card actaully belong's to my sister's new PJs!! Its the ribbon loops that are there to keep your clothes on the hanger. Now before you get the wrong idea, I didn't just cut off the ribbon without her knowing....but she did decide she didn't need the ribbon as she wouldn't be hanging up her PJs and so cut it off and gave it to me! What a fab way to add to my ribbon stash for free!! So what are you waiting for...go check your clothes for excess ribbon!!

Keeping it Simple

Hello there....is it only Thursday?? Why is this week going by sooooo slowly?? Surely if I've had a Bank Holiday Monday the week should whizz by!!

Today I have a clean and simple card to share with you.....

Being one of those rather girlie crafters I always struggle a little when it comes to thinking of you cards. Trying to get the balance right is something I find a bit hard...so when I made this one I decided to go down the clean and simple route. Using just two stamps and some sparkly Stickles.

I love this mini tree stamp, and some of the eagle eyed of you might notice this is a smaller version of another one of my favourite stamps! I think its very elegant and works for so many different occasions.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges:

Pink Elephant - thinking of you
Simon Says Stamp - anything goes
Alphabet Challenge - only one colour plus white (black and white)

Pop by all these fab blogs to see the gorgeous DT cards that have been created.

Thanks for popping by today, see you again soon I hope!

Something Old, Something New!

Hello there campers! Hope you're well.

Well, its Saturday and that means another fab challenge from Sweet Stampin, and this week its the turn of my team....Team Abi...woo hoo! The theme this week is Something Old, Something New....you just need to use something old on your card and something new on your card...simple! Take a peek at the Sweet Stampin Challenge blog and all Team Abi DT blogs to see some wonderful cards!

As its still June, we're still joined by the fab Prairie Fairy as our monthly sponsor......

...and this week we're joined by the fab Bugaboo Stamps as our weekly sponsor....check out the Sweet Stampin Challenge Blog to see the prizes that are up for grabs!

Here is my card....

We were lucky enough to be given some digi stamps from Bugaboo this week and I picked this gorgeous frame to feature on my card. I'd like to count the digi image as my something new.....but the "thinking of you" stamp is also new! I wanted to keep the card simple to show off the frame, so I opted for a blue colour theme with just two papers and some ribbon. The gorgeous blue and bronze swirly paper is my something old....I've had this paper for ages and I love it! I've used it very sparingly and this is my last piece! I've had it so long that I'm not sure where it came from!!

Right, thats all for today...this post is a little bit of a cheat really as I'm actually on Brownie Pack Holiday this weekend and have scheduled this post to appear! We're at a fab activity centre for the weekend, so keep your fingers crossed that the weather is ok!!

Thanks for popping by today and I look forward to visiting your blogs!

N is for......

....new stash! Evening all...hope you've all had a lovely Wednesday. My day has been interesting, I've experienced so many moans today from work colleagues...I'm glad to be back at home!

Anyway, I've been experiementing with the word art function in Microsoft word and as a result I have several sentiments to use on my cards that look out of the ordinary and give a slightly different dimension to my cards. It was so simple to do, but as you'll see from these cards its very effective.

To achieve this you need to open word and select the word art option. You then write the sentiment that you require, using the arc shape. Make sure you also choose the font that you want to use. The sentiment will then appear as an arc on the page, but if you double click on the arc you open up a new selection of tools which allow you to mulipulate the words even more. I have changed the angles of my arcs, and changed the colours I used. You need to play about with this function a little bit and I did end up with an upside down sentiment more than once, but I think the effort was worth it!

As a result of my playing and printing I now have a lovely new stash of sentiments to add to my cards! This fits in well with a new challenge that I've found over on a lovely blog called ABC Challenge. They run challenges on a fortnightly basis, challenging crafters to create a card or project based on a theme or technique using the letters of the alphabet in turn. This week its "N is for...new stash!"          The DT have come up with some adorable cards for this challenge, take a peek here.

I think I'll enter the Thinking of You card for this challenge, as not only have I used my new sentiment, the lovely blue ribbon and the backing paper are also new (yes, I've been shopping!!).

Anyway, I'm off to Brownies very shortly....we're planting cress seeds this week...then I'm candle making with the Guides - no rest for the wicked!

Thanks for stopping by,
