Meet Dave the Alien!

So, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.....I certainly did...I was spoilt rotten, which was lovely. A big thank you to all my friends and family.  I got a lot of crafty bits and pieces and a lot of much needed storage....I promise to be neater in 2010...ha, ha...who am I kidding??

Anyway, I've been busy crafting as usual and I'd like to introduce you to my newest little creation.....

Dave the Alien

Dave is made out of scrap felt, I used green for his body and a gorgeous purple for his eyes and arms. He has a little purple sequin on his belly and a hand stitched smile. He is stuffed and I used a simple over-stitch to hold him together.

As you'll see from a picture below I have turned this one into a fridge magnet, but I also intend to make Dave into brooches and little handing ornaments...he'll appear in my MISI shop one day!

I can see you wondering about the name....thats easily answered....Dave is the name you'll get for a cute little alien if you ask your boyfriend what he should be called! We also have Simon the Elephant in the making!!

Dave didn't appear easily...no, it took several attempts to get him right...my first attempt just didn't look right.....plus he had a separate body and head and I didn't like how it looked.....not cute enough really....

My second attempt got much cuter...his smile is much more appealing and I cut his head and body out as one piece....but in my excitment I only gave him one arm!! Ha, ha!! Take three is definitly the best!

Finally here is the view from the back, I've used crafters magnet which is self adhesive. It comes in a long roll and you can easily cut it to the size you require using scissors.

I'm really pleased with how Dave has turned out....I hope you like him too!

Enjoy,
Wedgie xx

Been Drifting!

Drifting - sliding a car around a track sideways. This is Joe's passion - he lives and dies for drifting and I've been a passenger in his car several times now. It's fast, its noisy and I get covered in rubber....but I love it!

So, Joe and I have been together for nearly two years and he's finally agreed to let me know a go in his drift car (this is big - his car is his baby, he probably loves it more than me!!). I was supposed to go last month for my Birthday, but I had problems with a trapped nerve in my neck so gave that one a miss.

This morning we got up nice and early, headed up to Santa Pod all excited.....Joe went out on the big track a couple of times and then he said the words I'd been waiting for....."So, do you want a go now?". Then the engine started making a banging noise...his bottom end had "gone" so no drifting for me today!

Then a friend called Matt said I could have a go in his car......excellent, I started getting excited again....Matt went out for another skid and then got told his car was too noisy!! He could only carry on if he made it quieter!! For goodness sake - its a drift car, they are supposed to be noisy!!

If you ask me there is some kind of conspiracy going on here!! Oh well, back to crafting!

Beep! Beep!

So, I finally managed to get some crafty content on here! I've decided to dedicate this post to my love of card making, a passion which I've had for the last four or five years.
I first discovered just how much I enjoyed creating cards after a really bad car boot sale! I was selling things from my flat as I needed to downsize, and I hadn't done very well. Not sure why the people of Wimbledon didn't fancy my old fashion mistakes or my old Tom & Jerry videos - but I didn't really sell much. In fact I only made £30 out of the whole morning and I had to take my friend out to lunch to say thank you for standing with me in the freezing cold! Still, I had £30 and so I decided to spend it on something completley different. After looking around the shops I decided that card making was the way to go and invested in some of the basics.

And once I started I couldn't stop!

I've never been particularly arty and I can't draw very well, but I do enjoy putting things together. I have to admit a lot of my cards are very girlie...the sparkly the better I say! I am inspired by things I see and things I hear. I just love having the ability to make people personalised cards, something special that they can't find in the shops! If someone gives me an idea I'll try and make it - anything really......it doesn't always work, but I have fun trying!

So here are a couple of my creations, I'd love to hear your thoughts.......

Well I did it...I survived my 30Th Birthday and all the celebrations....I had a fab time, and more importantly I didn't experience any longings for getting a blue rinse perm!! Ha, ha! My friends and family and my fab boyfriend all spoilt me rotten...I've felt like a princess for the last couple of days...shame it can't last longer!

Presents included a new camera, the tickets to Mama Mia, my gorgeous little MX5 has been given a makeover (improved paint work and new wheels) and my sis and her hubby bought me a For Your Eyes Only photo shoot!! For anyone who hasn't heard of FYEO I will enlighten you...its a female only photography studio who specialise in boudoir piccies....yes my little sis has paid for me to have photos taken in the buff!! Ha, ha! In fact you don't have to be totally in the buff, you can take along your favorite undies, sexy stockings, that kind of thing.......I'm not sure they'll be impressed with my Bridget Jones pants though! Seriously - I can't wait! The message that went with the voucher said "So when you're 60 you can look back on the photos and see that life wasn't so bad!"

I also got a lot of craft things - gorgeous beads and papers, new craft books and things to organise my creative obsessions!! So, that means I will be getting into the swing of things and getting lots of cards and jewellery made in the next week or so. That coupled with my new camera mean that hopefully I will be able to show off some of my creations very soon!

Anyway, its late now and I need my beauty sleep....so I'm off to bed!
Night, Night!

Thank yous all around....

....wow...my first thank you is to everyone who has decided to follow me...hopefully its my amusing prose that has tempted you rather than the desperate note to my first entry! Those of you that are following me will have noticed I have added a photo of myself...gorgeous don't you think (and yes that is really me)?! I searched high and low for a mature photo of myself because I know people always question my age....I get asked for ID when buying a bottle of wine in my local supermarket for goodness sake! I wouldn't mind so much if the person asking for my ID looked old enough to serve me alcohol!! I suppose that's my second thank you to my lovely mum for passing on her super young looking genes!!

Talking of age and looking young, I turn 30 later this week...and I can't quite believe I've reached 30 already....someone should really tell you that once you hit about 21 someone, somewhere pushes the fast forward button on your life! Instead of Birthday wishes from the Queen when you hit 100, someone official should really send you a warning when you're younger!! I always thought I'd be married with two little girls by the time I reached 30 (yes my dream life was that precise!), but I've had a good look around and there is no husband hanging around, and definitly no children running about the place!

No instead of that life, I am reaching 30 with a wonderful boyfriend who is 2.5 years younger than me and I'm still living with my parents (in their dining room no less!). I did rent my own place for about four years, I had a fab time living with my sister and then she decided she wanted to move in with her boyfriend. I asked if I could move in with my parents for a couple of months, to save some money.........hmmm....that was just over two years ago! Whoops! Oh, plus I still haven't really saved anything! Double whoops! So, this thank you is to both mum and dad for putting up with me for soooo long!!

Still, I wouldn't go back and change a thing about my life so far....I'd still make all the same mistakes, and still experience all the same things that I've been through...why? Because thats what makes me who I am today....and when I look in the mirror I like who I see! I might talk too much, be a tad bit too bossy and be a bit of a clean-a-holic, but I don't mind!

I've already been lucky enough to have one Birthday treat this week - my fab best mate took me on a surprise trip last night - she took me to see Mama Mia at the theatre...what a fab treat! We sang and danced the evening away - it was brilliant! She also made me an amazing photo album full of little messages and photos....she found stickers to match each page, its brilliant....I knew I could convert one of my friends into a "crafty" person sooner of later!! So my biggest thank you today goes to my best mate Becca - thanks hun, you're a star!

Evening All.....

.....and welcome to Wedgie's Wonderful World! Since I am about to turn 30, I thought it was about time that I started getting my head around the wonderful world of the internet and get myself a blog! In the last year I have tried surfing, drifting (a fab motor sport...more to follow), bread making and I've witnessed my little sister tie the knot well before me!!

Now I thought I'd add another first and start boring the world with my jabbering.....my friends and family already say I talk too much, now I have another way of "talking"! Excellent!

I've been making cards for about four years now, and its a hobby I truely enjoy....I have recently also started dabbling in the world of jewellery making, and I hope to show some of my creations on here shortly.

Anyway, I'll stop jabbering for now....I hope someone will read this and maybe take some interest in this mad 29 year old (without sounding at all desperate there!!).

Watch this space!
